Swine Farm

Author: Melissa Rodríguez Alvarado/Monday, February 27, 2017/Categories: Promotion of Agriculture, Service to Community, Chapter Development, Puerto Rico

Pork and swine production contributes greatly to Puerto Rico's local agriculture. Thus, it's our responsibility to educate others to ensure a better agricultural future. The Puerto Rico Chapter had the opportunity to visit a local pig farm to learn more about this field. While visiting, the owner of the farm shared his preoccupations and educated us about the importance of agriculture from his point of view and we learned about the problems local farms face. We gave food to the pigs, detected heat, preformed basic husbandry practices and helped cleaned the premises. It was a great opportunity to gain more insight in the animal and production field while preforming community service.
