UF Pledge Class Road Cleanup 4/2/12

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

The Florida Chapter's pledge class cleaned up our adopted road with the help of some of our members. The members and pledges that participated in the clean-up did not mind taking time out of their schedule to pick up the trash and get it off the street. We normally find at least one surprise item as we clean down the road! The road clean-up was planned for an evening to avoid the heat of the day. We collected a bunch of trash cleaning up the community and making the people in the area very happy...

The Florida Chapter headed out to Tijuana Flats after our chapter meeting for their weekly Taco Tuesday. Members and pledges came out to catch up on what has been going on and get to know each other more so that the pledges can make a smooth transition into the chapter in less than a month! The dinner gave us an opportunity to relax and just hang out as friends without the stressors of school glooming over us. Members and pledges chowed down on tacos and tried out the many hot sauces from the hot sauce bar. We hope that this dinner after meetings becomes a regular event to give us a chance to become a closer AZ family!

The Florida Chapter held a fundraiser at TCBY from 8-9 PM where we receive a certain percentage of the profits from the night. Members and pledges came out to meet up with each other and catch up on what has been going on and get to know each other more so that the pledges can make a smooth transition into the chapter once initiated. The fundraiser gave us an opportunity to offset some of the fees associated with our chapter. Of course, what better way to do this than while eating ice cream! Members and pledges chowed down on frozen yogurt and ice cream of all kinds while enjoying the company of members.

Pledge Outing 2/4/2012

Originally posted by Emily R. Tompkins

The first activity for our 10 new members was an outdoor excursion with Pledge Master Gianni Parente ’14 and Pledge Educator Amanda Forstater ’13. Together the group completed a ropes course through Cornell Outdoor Education and the pledges cooked their own dinner over a fire. The group played games like mafia and various ice breakers and thoroughly enjoyed them. Even the heated cabins were too cold to stay in during February, so the event culminated in a slumber party on the comfy convertible couches in the formal room at the house. Pledges enjoyed the opportunity to spend the whole day getting to know each other, and recommend that it be repeated in the future.
