Cook Chapter Installment Ritual One

Cook Chapter Installment Ritual One

Originally posted by Sean K. Ryan

On Friday, February 17th, the new members went through the first installment of their initiation. Taken to the Rutgers Gardens, the Tau class sat with anticipation and nervousness. They had no idea what events were going to transpire that night. All they knew was that they had to work in sync in order to get through it. Each class of active brothers, alumni, and Chair of the Advisory Committee, Dr. George Clark, had their own time to question the new members on the history and ideals of Alpha Zeta.  Throughout the night, the new members were taken from the group to be questioned by Dr. Clark as well as meet their Bigs. At the end of the night, the Tau class was welcomed by the brothers and given their pins. This signified the beginning of their eight week initiation into the Fraternity.

UF Archery Lesson by Orange and Blue Archery Club 2/19/12

UF Archery Lesson by Orange and Blue Archery Club 2/19/12

The Orange and Blue Archery Club hosted Alpha Zeta for an archery lesson before their club practice. A team member Lauren taught the group the proper techniques of how to hold a bow and the arrow and equipment for shooting arrows. There was a great turnout for Alpha Zeta and all of the members had a great time! After overcoming the difficulty of the wind, members were able to shoot at foam targets, and several members came close while others did in fact hit the bulls eye. Members were able to learn about the challenges of tournament play and the different types of bows and arrows required for the sport. It was a great experience to join up with another UF club and a fun day outdoors!

This recruitment event is a favorite of chapter members, as it gives them a great chance to sit and talk with the potential new members. About 50 brothers and potential new members came out to enjoy a night of good food and good company.

On February 8th, the brothers of the Cook Chapter hosted their once a semester mixer for potential new members. About 30 interested students showed up to the mixer. The night started out with the Censor and Sgt at Arms explaining the pledging process and talking about what Alpha Zeta stands for and what we do at Rutgers. The new members then got to mingle with all of the brothers, first by taking part in a "brother scavenger hunt", and then by breaking into groups and playing ice breaker type games. All of the brothers enjoyed meeting the potential new members.

S'mores!

S'mores!

On the night of February 1st, Cook Chapter planned a recruitment event that would leave everyone in a sugar rush. We made a fire outside the Campus Center and invited anyone who was walking around to come and make a S'more. A lot of people burned their marshmallows and claimed that was the plan all along. It was a great way to promote our name on campus and announce our presence to potential pledges. We gave out a lot of pledge flyers and are hoping to see a great turnout this semester.

Gymnasts sporting pink leotards and pink all over the fans helped show our support to the survivors who were in attendance at the meet...

Members made over 100 cards "punny" cards that will hopefully brighten the days of the children in the hospital, most between 10 and 12 years old. The event was also used as a rush event, attracting some potential new members that wanted to learn more about the fraternity, especially our service aspect.

UF Cards for Pediatric Caner Patients Service 12/1/11

The Florida Chapter joined up with Friends for Life who represents the annual Hearts for the Holidays event. The event encourages UF students, faculty and staff to make holiday cards to pediatric cancer patients who will spend the holidays in the hospital. They attempt to send cards to one hospital in every state. Hearts for the Holidays gives university students and our members the chance to provide support for children fighting cancer. Our chapter benefited by coming together in order to make the lives of others better during the time of year where hope is in the area. The cards were delivered to the Friends for Life representatives to distribute to the hospitals.
