The Florida Chapter of Alpha Zeta cleaned up our adopted road with the help of our new pledges. The members and pledges that participated in the clean-up did not mind taking time out of their schedule to put the trash back where it belongs and off the street and were definitely surprised at what we find down the road! The road clean-up was planned for an evening to avoid the heat of the day...

NC Brothers participate at the Yam Jam

At the 2011 Yam Jam on October 15th, 8 brothers traveled to Johnston County and helped glean Sweet Potatoes. Gleaning is when you collect leftover crops that were not picked up when the farmers went through with the tractors. In order to find the sweet potatoes we had to dig with shovels or our hands. The Sweet Potatoes that everyone collected went to the local food shelter where they were distributed to different locations and different homes. It was surprising how relaxing digging in the dirt was. Everyone really enjoyed our ag-related service project that helped a lot of people who depend on the food shelters.

As one of our service projects this semester, 11 brothers went to the Wake County SPCA Food Pantry to volunteer our time to help with something they needed done. For two hours the brothers got to mark off the bar codes on dog food to prevent the people, who were getting a bag for free the next day, from taking them back to the stores and getting money from them. After the brothers finished the assignment that was given to them, they got to interact with the animals at the shelter until they had to leave...

Every semester the Cornell Chapter hosts "Ag Day" on the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Quad. Our event this semester was held on 10/14. While Cornell may be the land grant university in our state, sadly many students do not even know that Cornell still has agricultural departments. We hold this event to both educate the Cornell Community, as well as to raise money for Tompkins County 4-H. Our event this semester was run as it has been in the past, with a fistulated cow for cow bingo, food, tractors, sheep, and campus agricultural organizations and clubs...

As a kickoff to homecoming week at the University of Illinois, the Student Alumni Ambassadors organize a massive, campus wide service project called iHelp. This event, which had close to 2000 participants, is a way for the members of the UIUC campus to give back to the community and form a closer bond. This is the first year that the Alpha Zeta Morrow Chapter participated and we had a great turn out. 9 brothers volunteered for this event and our project was to help construct a high tunnel and winterize the plots at the Student Sustainable Farm...
