NC SPCA Food Pantry Service Project

As one of our service projects this semester, 11 brothers went to the Wake County SPCA Food Pantry to volunteer our time to help with something they needed done. For two hours the brothers got to mark off the bar codes on dog food to prevent the people, who were getting a bag for free the next day, from taking them back to the stores and getting money from them. After the brothers finished the assignment that was given to them, they got to interact with the animals at the shelter until they had to leave...

NC Roundtable Interviews

Originally posted by Madeline N. Dabolt

On Sunday September 11th, the brothers of the North Carolina Chapter of Alpha Zeta met to interview our potential candidates.  We all met at Weaver labs at 11am in business professional dress and brought breakfast or brunch items to share.  We started the day by welcoming the potential candidates, showing them a slide show presentation of some of our activities, and singing the AZ friendship song.  These interviews gave us an opportunity to get to know these talented individuals and a time for them to ask us questions...

Our Junior Advisor, Gary Hamm, cooked Hamburgers and Hot Dogs on his grill as well as chips and cookies. The food and company was very enjoyable. Several Brothers and Alumni showed up to enjoy playing football and kickball. Everyone had a great time and we plan on doing this again in the Spring.

To get our word out about our information sessions, we set up our boards on the brickyard September 7th and 8th. Brothers stood at the boards in between classes so that if a student had questions about Alpha Zeta they could answer them. We had several students who were interested. This was a good time for the brotherhood to interact with other students and each other.

On April 19th, several of our brothers scooped at the Coldstone Creamery in Cary, NC.  While they helped serve delicious ice cream for two hours, the rest of the brotherhood and their friends enjoyed the ice cream creations. A couple of us had the "All lovin', no oven".  It was amazing, but sweet. All of us enjoyed socializing and hanging out as a brotherhood in the good weather that day.  We raised $120 to support the brothers that attended NALC at the beginning of the month.

North Carolina SPCA Dog Walk

On April 16th, four Brothers attended the SPCA of Wake County's Dog Walk.  They only had 1 dog and her name is Sissy.  There were a lot of different rescue organizations, vets, and other vendors set up under tents giving away free goodies and information in Moore Square.  We started the 3K in Moore Square and walked around downtown Raleigh and ended up back at Moore Square.  There were a lot of people there and the weather was overcast and breezy but not hot. All the money raised went to the Wake County SPCA.  The theme was "No Kill Now" and $242,429.19 was raised.  Alpha Zeta raised $485.00.  There were also 8 other folks on our team who were not apart of Alpha Zeta, but helped out.

North Carolina Chapter Candlelight

Originally posted by Madeline N. Dabolt

After our regularly scheduled business meeting we held a candlelight ceremony in honor of our May graduates.  We all sat in a circle passing a candle around sharing our favorite memories of AZ, what Alpha Zeta has meant to us, and wishing those graduating the best of luck.  We ended with the graduating seniors telling their favorite memories and giving us advice as we finish our college careers.  It is always an emotional and meaningful ceremony.
