Cook Chapter Co-sponsors Responsible Happy Hour

On February 4th, the Cook Chapter co-sponsored Responsible Happy Hour with SEBS Governing Council. The event included discounted drinks for those over 21, free food, music, and provided a nice time to socialize and catch up with friends, the rest of the brotherhood, alumni, and prospective pledges. There was also a slide show showcasing many pictures of Cook Chapter brothers at many of our past events so that prospective pledges could see more what we were all about. There were 26 brothers present and 5 alumni, not to mention a number of prospective pledges. Our faculty adviser, George Clark, was also present.

Valentine's Rose Sale Fundraiser

Valentine's Rose Sale Fundraiser

Our annual rose sale is our biggest fundraiser! Our fundraiser chair, Gernide Zamor, did an excellent job planning everything with the help of 28 other members! An order form is e-mailed to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences faculty listserv as well as the Florida chapter's AZ listserv. We order over 700 roses in red, white, and pink colors to fulfill our pre-sales and to sell individually on campus on Valentine's Day. This is a THREE DAY event since it takes time to prep the roses (de-thorn, clip the ends, and separate by color), store in a walk-in cooler, bundle the roses according to pre-sale orders, deliver the orders on campus on Valentine's day, and table on campus selling any remaining roses. This benefits the college by giving an alternative to expensive florists while supporting its own honors fraternity! We greatly look forward to this event every spring!

The Florida chapter of Alpha Zeta helped plant young trees at one of our many local springs, Poe Springs. This project benefited those that participated by being out in nature and helping the environment by planting trees. The chapter participated because this was yet another perfect way to promote agriculture. Planning included knowing what time to meet up, organizing a carpool, and providing directions to the springs.

1-29 Road Clean-Up Service

1-29 Road Clean-Up Service

The Florida chapter of Alpha Zeta adopted a road several years ago and in order to keep this road we have to do a certain number of road clean-ups within a year's time. Of course, we don't mind and enjoy making sure trash gets put where it belongs! We usually do our road clean-ups on Saturday mornings, so our service chair, Kaitlyn Summerfield, plans for those attending to meet in a parking lot on campus and carpool over. Planning involves pickin up the supplies ahead of time and bringing it to our AZ road. This is always a great way to get outside and socialize while cleaning our environment!

For our fall back to school social, our social chair, Dalal Hares, planned a dinner at Gators Dockside. It went so well we had another one to welcome the start of spring semester! Planning involed getting a rough estimate of the number of members that would attend in order to give the restaurant a notice about a large party coming for dinner. At the restaurant, everyone pays for their own food and drink but has a lot of fun catching up with friends discussing what we did over holiday break!

On December 14th 8 brothers and 2 alumni of the Cook College Chapter got together and had a tea party to celebrate the holidays and talk about future events that the chapter would like to have. Many of the members of the brotherhood committee attended to discuss this past semesters events and how they could be improved and events that brothers would like to see happen in the future. A good time was had by all and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas played in the background as a nice touch.

UF AZ White Elephant Social

UF AZ White Elephant Social

This is the second year we have turned our last fall semester meeting into a White Elephant gift exchange. The rules are pretty simple: everyone brings a wrapped gift valued at $5-$10. We number slips of paper 1-however many people we have, and each person takes a number from a hat. Whoever gets #1 goes to the front and unwraps a gift. Number 2 may unwrap his own gift or steal the gift of number 1. We continue until everyone has a gift! A gift may be stolen only 3 times, and if your gift is stolen, you unwrap another! The 22 members that participated had a lot of fun and went home with a unique present.
