The Olympics have Come to Cook Chapter

The Olympics have Come to Cook Chapter

On March 10th the Cook Chapter held our Big/Little Olympics. This event is specially designed to strengthen bonds between big and little pairs. We played partner games including dodgeball, ninja, tanks, and a pasta race where participants had to fill an entire cup with macaroni without using their hands. These team building games help bigs and littles get to know each other while having lots of fun. Teams also dress up according to a theme. This year's theme was animals, so we had several very creative team costumes including pigs, cats and bats!

Rebounderz!

Pictured below are several of our brothers at Rebounderz for a brotherhood event on March 14th to de-stress. Most of the activities every semester are centered around the pledges, so the brother like to get together once in a while and do something fun just for us, to reconnect to the members already in our brotherhood. Rebounderz is an indoor trampoline arena in the area where people can go to play on their numerous trampolines and in the foam pit. On Thursday nights Rebounderz holds college nights with discounted admission and activities for students.

Scavenger Hunt: Chapter Bonding for Relay for Life

Scavenger Hunt: Chapter Bonding for Relay for Life

Originally posted by Jacquelyn E. Neal

At the member meeting on Tuesday, March 19th, the Florida Chapter engaged in some fun chapter bonding in preparation for Relay for Life. The chapter was divided into teams based on their shift for the event, and asked to complete six tasks. Some of the tasks included making up an Alpha Zeta Cheer, serenading a random stranger by singing "Happy Birthday", and  taking group photos at several University of Florida landmarks. The teams had a half an hour to complete the challenge and had tons of fun while getting to know each other. Some of the pledges participated as well and got to know the members. As the second year of the scavenger hunt, hopefully it will become an annual bonding tradition for the chapter!

NC Ice-Cream Fundraiser

On February 26th, seventeen brothers and one alumnus attended our fundraiser at Coldstone Creamery in Cary, NC.  Four brothers mixed and served delicious ice cream for two hours, while the rest of the brotherhood and their friends enjoyed the ice cream creations. All of us enjoyed socializing as a brotherhood even though the weather was cold and rainy.  We only raised $30, so we hope to do another fundraiser later in the semester.

As one of our recruitment events this semester, Cook Chapter decided to host a video game night on February 7th. Held at a campus center, multiple stations were set up with games like Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Kart. Anyone was welcome to join in the festivities, and we had many potential members attend. Everyone had a blast, and we even started a (non video game) session of Apples to Apples, which got very loud...

First New Member Meeting and Applebees

First New Member Meeting and Applebees

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

Right after the first brother meeting of the semester, it is traditional for the new members to learn about the fraternity, watch a video, and make sure that they want to pledge. As a part of this, the brothers take them out to a local Applebees for half price appetizers. This is a chance for the new members to meet the brothers in an informal setting and really decide if pledging is right for them. The brothers also meet all the potential new members for the semester and see if they click with any in particular - so they can ask to be their "big brother" for the semester...

Valentine's Day Cards

Valentine's Day Cards

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

In order to get ready for Valentine's Day, the brothers of AZ Cook chapter decided to make Valentine's cards for the pediatric ward of St. Peter's Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.  These themed cards varied in colors, designs and heart-warming messages.  The Brothers felt that by making these cards, they would be able to put a smile on a child's face.  The brothers really were able to showcase their creativity while designing the cards with stickers, stamps, markers and cut-outs.  Through card-making, the brothers were able to make children smile on Valentine’s Day.  This chapter has a lot of heart and definitely extended their kindness to children who know that the brothers of Alpha Zeta really care.

Winter Ice Skating-Cornell Chapter

Winter Ice Skating-Cornell Chapter

Originally posted by Sara K. Orlowski

After enduring a week of bitterly cold temperatures to and from class, what better way to enjoy the first weekend after the beginning of classes than to clear the snow off a local pond and go ice skating and play some impromptu hockey? On the last Saturday of January, the last day of prolonged single digit temperatures, a group of members scouted out a local pond rumored to be a good place for skating. After overcoming the challenge posed by finding a pond covered in snow on the edge of the field, they cleared it off as much they could before giving in to the temptation of skating, brought out the hockey sticks and a puck and began a game. Exhausted and cold, they made their way home for warm mugs of hot chocolate. This activity was a great way to build brotherhood among the members of the fraternity.

NC Valentine Exchange

Originally posted by Ashley J. Kirby

The North Carolina Chapter celebrated Valentine’s Day during a busy Candidate Education Week. On Thursday, February 14th, 22 brothers made valentines or brought bags of candy. The social committee prepared paper valentine bags for every brother and candidate. As brothers arrived, they filled each bag with delicious candy as well as compliments or  kind notes for everyone. This activity is a great way for brothers to show their love and appreciation for each other.
