Cornell Chapter Faculty Wine and Cheese

Originally posted by Rebecca S. Terry

Every semester members of the Cornell chapter host a faculty wine and cheese. The event is a way to get to know the faculty better and show them our house. As always, there is a variety of wine and cheese to sample. Since members are from different majors it provides an opportunity to get to know professors outside of one’s major. It is also an opportunity for members to practice wearing business professional dress. Chronicler, Danielle Sanok, planned this year’s wine and cheese. The event is put on every fall semester, with a faculty dinner every spring. The wine and cheese was a great success and we look forward to the next faculty event.

This semester, NC State University’s Campus Recreation hosted a Pool Battleship Tournament on November 8th. Six brothers of the North Carolina Chapter participated in the event for the first time with an Alpha team and a Zeta team. Brothers registered online with Campus Recreation, who divided teams into five heats of eight canoes. We arrived at the campus pool fifteen minutes prior to our 6:30 start time. The object of pool battleship is to be the last boat floating, so brothers had to bring tools. Three brothers were in a canoe and either threw water into other canoes with bowls or used a plastic shield to block water. There were no paddles, so teams had to work together to stay balanced while moving...

The North Carolina Chapter participates in the College of Agriculture and Life Science’s Agri-Life Council with other groups within the college. The council invited brothers to participate in a service project with Wake Interfaith Food Shuttle on November 9th. Four brothers traveled to Johnston County to glean sweet potatoes. We collected leftover potatoes that were not picked up with tractors. We enjoyed digging around the roots for over two hours and collected about 100 pounds of potatoes per person.  It was surprising how relaxing the dirt was and we really enjoyed the project which helps feed hungry people. The event was a great opportunity to interact with students from other organizations within the college.

One of NC State University’s most treasured landmarks is the Free Expression Tunnel under a railroad track that runs through the middle of our campus. Students are free to paint anything they would like in this tunnel and it is also the site of campus events and celebrations. The Union Activities Board decided to have a party outside the tunnel after the polls closed on Election Day in order to create a feeling of campus unity. The event also promoted positive artwork in the tunnel...

UF Earth Day Service and Social 4/22/12

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

The Florida Chapter celebrated Earth Day by giving back to the community. Members cleaned up our adopted road with the help of some of our newest additions. The members that participated in the clean-up did not mind taking time out of their schedule, as the last 3 days of classes came closer and made graduation ever closer for some or the next year of school for others, to pick up the trash and get it off the street. The road clean-up was planned for the morning to avoid the heat of the day and to be completed when the Horticulture Departments Earth Day event started...

The Florida Chapter had the amazing opportunity to initiate its newest members into our chapter. The night was beautiful and matched our excitement and gratitude to the members, staff, and initiates that came out. The ceremony was a traditional set up allowing the initiates an inside into what we were founded on and what we strive towards as an organization. After the ceremony we joined in congratulating the newest members of our chapter with dinner where they sat with their sponsors, our advisors, and members...
