NC Stream Cleanup

NC Stream Cleanup

Originally posted by Ashley J. Kirby

On Saturday September 8th, six brothers met to pick up trash around a stream that runs through NCSU’s campus. This is a project that the North Carolina Chapter usually participates in once a semester to aid university maintenance. Our service coordinator organized the project and supplied the group with gloves and trash bags. At 10am, brothers cleaned up an area that many joggers and bikers frequent for about an hour. It was a great morning to be outside. Brothers enjoyed spending time together while beautifying our campus.

Every summer the North Carolina Chapter travels to Jefferson, NC for a relaxing canoe trip. On Wednesday, May 16th, the group took care of some last minute shopping and traveled to the campsite. Thursday we canoed ten miles down the river for about five hours. We had a shorter trip of about seven miles in three hours on Friday. Seven brothers camped for two nights and canoed two days while only having to pay about $45. Some brothers enjoyed learning to kayak for the first time. Others enjoyed fishing and watching wildlife in their canoe. The New River was fairly calm with rapids up to level two...

NC Chapter’s Key Unveiling

Originally posted by Ashley J. Kirby

A key commemorating the 75th anniversary of the North Carolina Chapter was placed in NCSU’s Free Expression Tunnel in 1979. Due to later construction projects, it was removed and held in storage at a nearby farm educational unit. NC Alumni began raising money and suggested that the key move to a new home. Two years ago, the NC chapter began working to find a new place for the key and a way to honor alumni...

The NC Chapter sponsored a 5k run around NC State’s campus. Three brothers volunteered to help with the event, run or walk on Saturday, April 21. We contributed $250 to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Ambassadors, who host the event. After the race, participants enjoyed games, music, snacks and NCSU ice cream. The Fun Run was a great opportunity to get involved in campus events and support other organizations within the college. We hope to participate in the event next year.

NC End-of-Year Pot Luck and Candlelight

Originally posted by Ashley J. Kirby

Starting at 6:00 on April 25th before our last meeting of the semester, we all joined outside Weaver Shop for a potluck.  Each brother brought a covered dish to share with everyone.  We had everything from cheesy mashed potatoes, homemade macaroni, and Bojangles’ chicken.  Many brothers contributed tasty desserts as well, such as mode and sky blue AZ cupcakes. There were 60 brothers, 3 alumni, and 2 advisors in attendance.  It was a great time to relax before the beginning of final exams and a great opportunity to fellowship with those graduating in May.

NC Cemetery Flag Setting

Originally posted by Ashley J. Kirby

The NC Chapter of Alpha Zeta has had an ongoing working relationship with Oakwood Cemetery in downtown Raleigh. Every semester we help them with general maintenance as well as other events such as the October Lantern Walk and Memorial Day Observance. This year six brothers donated their time on Saturday, May 5th, to help set out American Flags in front of gravestones. We also picked up trash and removed dead trees. The gentlemen at the cemetery are always very excited to see us and have our help!
