Established in 2005, the James and Florence Keith Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to an Alpha Zeta member at Montana State University. Preference is given to academically outstanding students who are continuing on to professional Veterinary Medicine programs at other universities.
James Keith was initiated into the Montana Chapter in 1940. He went on to receive a degree in Animal Scinece in 1942. He later earned his doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and established a practice in White Sulpher Springs, Mt. He passed away in the early 1980s.
Florence Keith passed away in 2002. In her estate she bequethed $470,000 to the Alpha Zeta Foundation to establish the Keith Scholarship.
Unfortunately, Alpha Zeta was unaware of the gift until we received notice upon Mrs. Keith's passing and we could not thank and honor the Keiths during their life. Regardless, Alpha Zeta extends its sincerest graditude on behalf of all Alpha Zeta members and especially students in Montana Chapter whom the gift will benefit the most directly.
The first Keith Scholarships were granted April 28, 2006, to Jenny Janitell and Chase Brady. Each received a $6,000 scholarship.
