Every other Sunday, the Elliott Chapter at Washington State University carpools out to Orphan Acres, a horse rescue facility in Viola, Idaho.  While there, we participated in regular feeding, grooming, health care, and blanket checking for the horses.  We also got a chance to groom and walk three blind horses.  This activity benefits the 85 rescued horses at this facility, while helping the owner, Brent, keep up with the work he would otherwise be doing himself.  This is a non-profit institution solely in existence to benefit the neglected, abused, and otherwise forgotten horses throughout the Pacific Northwest.

In order to accomplish this chapter every other week, we coordinate members for carpooling so to reduce wasted resources in traveling the 35 miles to Viola, ID.  It is expected that each member participate in at least four Orphan Acre trips each semester.  Of course, it is not difficult to arrange enough people to be productive out there since we tend to have a lot of fun getting muddy with the horses!!
