UF Potluck 11/15/11

It's potluck time again!!! Potluck is a tradition in the Florida Chapter where the pledges put on a themed dinner for the members. Our pledges planned it and came up with a theme of Mexican. Pledges, with the help of the officers, cooked up an entire taco bar of food and desserts for the members to feast on. The potluck benefits both members and pledges by giving us an opportunity to socialize and get to know each other better. It also gives pledges the opportunity to get their paddles signed as initiation quickly approaches! Even though potluck occurs every semester it will never get old and as we say you will see members you haven't seen in a while! It constantly shows each pledge class's personality with the changing themes and the corresponding food, decorations, and outfits/costumes.

Members of the Florida Chapter's Fall pledge class took time off from studying during the week to visit the Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville. While at the house the pledges baked and passed out approximately 100 cookies for the residents. The Ronald McDonald House provides temporary housing, basic amenities and support to families with critically ill children seeking treatment at area medical facilities. The program helps to stabilize situations for families and allow them to concentrate all of their time and energy on the treatment and recovery of their children...

Cook Chapter Pledge Project 10/22

Cook Chapter Pledge Project 10/22

Cook Chapter took a field trip to the Rutgers Gardens to clean the bamboo forest. Every semester, we head over and shovel and rake mulch into a better path, weed, cut down dead and dangerous branches and help the Gardens in any way they need. This time our clean up also included planting new trees along the street to reduce erosion. Everyone had a great time and we all managed to whistle while we worked (and sing Disney songs as well), making the manual labor much more enjoyable.

UF Pledge Class Dinner Social 11/2/11

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

For the UF Chapter's Fall Pledge class social they planned a dinner at Leonardo's Pizza. A few members of the pledge class had never eaten there before, so it was a great experience for them to share. The dinner allowed members of the pledge class the opportunity to get to know one another and share stories of past professors and giving each other tips on how to survive different classes. It was nice for them to have dinner together because they have already made many new memories that they could laugh about over dinner. At the restaurant, everyone pays for their own food and drink but they had a lot of fun catching up with each other.

The Florida Chapter of Alpha Zeta cleaned up our adopted road with the help of our new pledges. The members and pledges that participated in the clean-up did not mind taking time out of their schedule to put the trash back where it belongs and off the street and were definitely surprised at what we find down the road! The road clean-up was planned for an evening to avoid the heat of the day...

Cornell Chapter Sibling Olympics

As part of our new member education process, the pledges planned a sibling olympics event for the active members on 10/15. The event was held in the afternoon and included a pumpkin carving contest and a scarecrow building contest (pictured), among other events. This is the second semester we've done this event and is something we hope to continue it in the future as it is a great way to bring both active members and new members together in a fun setting.

Each pledge received a gift related to their particular lineage and photos of each pledge with their bigs were taken. Following the event was a night of good, fun fellowship!

Lost in a Maze of Maize

Lost in a Maze of Maize

This past Friday, (9/30), the Cornell Chapter attended a corn maze with two other campus organizations. Collegiate FFA and Hortus Forum (the undergraduate horticulture club) attended with us. Everyone met at the AZ House and headed to the maze together. Many members of AZ are a part of the other organizations and we thought it would be a great way to mingle with other "aggies". Around 15 actives attended, 1 alumni, and 3 pledges, along with many others from the other organizations. Everyone had a great time despite the mud and we really look forward to organizing events like this with other agricultural organizations in the future!

Cornell Campus Scavenger Hunt

Cornell Campus Scavenger Hunt

Originally posted by Emmaline A. Long

One of our new member events is a campus scavenger hunt to learn about how AZ at Cornell has impacted the campus, mostly in the Ag School. It was held this semester on 9/27. New members got clues to different buildings on campus that are important to AZ and met actives at each building to hear how it was important. At one stop, two alumni surprised the new members with hot chocolate. The night concluded on the Arts Quad by the statue of our college's founder.
