Grilled Cheeses for Diseases was started as a way to raise funds to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Central Ohio. This years event took place on November 2, 2012. Members begin making grilled cheese sandwiches and give them to fellow students on campus in return for a donation. Through generous support of our university, we were able to purchase materials at no cost to our organization and could donate all proceeds directly to the Society. This event was done in collaboration with Alpha Tau Zeta-FarmHouse Fraternity, and we greatly enjoy working with other students groups to take part in philanthrophy activites. This event benefits both groups in that we are providing other students the opportunity to volunteer directly in planning and executing the event or volunteer indirectly through monetary donations. We also had representatives from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society present during the event to help students make a connection with the end-user of their donation and what their gift is going towards. Regarding event logistics, the Alpha Zeta Partners community service committee and ATZ-FH philanthropy chair worked together to complete several grant requests, marketing and advertising, event space reservations, supply purchasing, and follow-up event packets to aid in the planning of next year's Grilled Cheeses to Prevent Diseases!
