UF Ronald McDonald House Service 2/21/12 & 2/23/12

Members of the Florida Chapter took their lunch break to go join up with other organizations and sororities to help out at the local Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville. While at the house members help remove and replace box springs and mattresses in the house. The Ronald McDonald House provides temporary housing, basic amenities and support to families with critically ill children seeking treatment at area medical facilities. The program helps to stabilize situations for families and allow them to concentrate all of their time and energy on the treatment and recovery of their children. By just changing out their beds to something newer and more comfortable we may have just made their day a tad better!...

Members of the Florida chapter grabbed bags and gloves to remove one of Gainesville’s most threatening plant species- the air potato. The theme of the event this year was "Beware of the Dark Side Darth Tater” and the forest was with our members on this particular morning. This annual event is attended by hundreds of Gainesville residents who spend the day working in local parks and on the University of Florida campus to remove the invasive plant, which really does resemble a potato. This year, 5700 lbs of air potatoes were collected from all over the city, as well as 95 bags of trash. AZ members felt great about helping the Gainesville community, and celebrated after at the Morningside Nature Center, enjoying food, music, and brotherhood.

The brotherhood helps with a lot of the events that the Cemetery holds every year and this is one of the funnest ones...

With the Thanksgiving holiday fast approaching the Florida Chapter decided to be thankful for what we have and pass on the gift of food who are not as fortunate. Members collected cans to donate to the St. Francis House in Gainesville. The St. Francis House is there to provide emergency food, temporary shelter, transitional housing, and related support services in a safe, secure environment for people who find themselves confronted with homelessness and hunger in the Alachua County. The cans will be given to the St. Francis House where they will distribute them to people in need around the area. The event allowed our members to give back to the community and try to change someone's luck one can at a time.
