NC Service with 4H students

Originally posted by Madeline N. Dabolt

On Sunday March 11th, 7 brothers went and helped at the Wake County 4H Workshop. The brothers got to speak with Middle School students about agriculture. A lot of the students were in the Horse club, but there were other students who were in the different clubs that are offered in Wake County. They played an Ag Trivia game where they had to answer various questions about agriculture. The students also got to ask the brothers questions about college and what it was all about so they would know the process to applying and what kind of majors they would be able to choose. Brother Kirby talked to them about the Pre-Vet program at NCSU.

NC End of the Semester Candlelight

Originally posted by Madeline N. Dabolt

At end of our last meeting of the semester, the brotherhood got into a circle at Candlelight ceremony.  We all passed a candle around sharing our favorite memories of AZ, what Alpha Zeta has meant to us, and wishing those December graduates the best of luck.  We ended with the graduating seniors telling their favorite memories and giving us advice as we finish our college careers.  It is always an emotional and meaningful ceremony. This semester we had five brothers graduate from their undergraduate careers, some moving on to more school or jobs.

The brotherhood helped fill old 2 liter soda bottles with sand and placed candles in them on top of the sand. We made a safe path for the families that planned on attending that nights lantern walk. The brotherhood helps with a lot of the events that the Cemetery holds every year and this is one of the funnest ones...

NC Brothers participate at the Yam Jam

NC Brothers participate at the Yam Jam

Originally posted by Madeline N. Dabolt

At the 2011 Yam Jam on October 15th, 8 brothers traveled to Johnston County and helped glean Sweet Potatoes. Gleaning is when you collect leftover crops that were not picked up when the farmers went through with the tractors. In order to find the sweet potatoes we had to dig with shovels or our hands. The Sweet Potatoes that everyone collected went to the local food shelter where they were distributed to different locations and different homes. It was surprising how relaxing digging in the dirt was. Everyone really enjoyed our ag-related service project that helped a lot of people who depend on the food shelters.
