The Pledge Class had their first fundraising event this past weekend. Each pledge is required to complete 5 hours of fundraising. They volunteered at a concession stand for the University of Florida's Lacrosse Tournament. They prepared and sold hot dogs, popcorn, pretzels, hamburgers, drinks, etc. The shift was from 9am until 5pm, and even though it was long, they split it up into two four hour shifts so each pledge had an opportunity to volunteer. On September 24 we had our second fundraiser of the semester in our Agricultural Sciences building from 8:30am to 2:00pm. We were experimenting with this type of sale because our Chapter had never done it before and we didn't know if it was going to be successful, so we didn't want to buy to much product and then be unable to sell it. The sale was successful we made a total of $100, since we sold everything next time we know that there will be more demand.

On September 10 we had a Hot Dog fundraiser in our Agricultural Sciences building from 8:30am to 2:00pm. All the materials for the sale were donated by our members and with the money we made we will fund future fundraisers. The sale was a success we had 11 members help during the whole sale to work between classes and we made a total of $195.30.

The North Carolina Chapter’s officer team went on a retreat in Emerald Isle, North Carolina this past weekend to brainstorm and discuss the upcoming year.  With the new school year just around the corner, it was a perfect opportunity to gather together and share ideas before the new semester starts.  Four out of the five officers were in attendance, and it was a very productive retreat.  A majority of the time was spent coming up with fundraising ideas and revising our financial plans and ...

On April 1, 2014 the Cal Epsilon chapter held their first Panda Express Fundraiser. Members passed out flyers for the Panda Express on the Fresno State campus from lunchtime until the informal meeting that evening. Members purchased their Panda Express dinners and ate while we conducted our chapter business. Our chapter raised $210.51!  Money raised will goes towards future chapter activities. With the first days of spring arriving, it’s a perfect time for a swim in Cayuga Lake! This year 9 bravemembers of our chapter formed a team to participate in the Ithaca Polar Plunge on March 22nd. ThePolar Plunge is a special event in which teams gather together to run into the frigid waters of Cayuga Lake to raise support for the Special Olympics. Our team raised around $1000! On Valentine's Day this past week, members of the Florida Chapter participated in a campus-wide rose sale to benefit our chapter. We set up a table on campus and sold roses to students throughout the day, as well as to professors. We also delivered roses to faculty who had pre-ordered roses. The Cal Delta Chapter recently put on a Valentine's Day cookie pre-sale fundraiser to raise money for NALC. Actives took orders and then baked over 400 cookies. In addition to being a successful fundraiser, this was a great opportunity for the Cal Delta chapter to increase our presence on campus.

Beginning on November 18, 2013, Alpha Zeta-Cal Epsilon held a 50/50 fundraiser with proceeds going to Fresno State’s food bank, the Bulldog Pantry. Members came together to make packets, sign out sheets and separate tickets to prepare for this community service event. The North Carolina State Fair is a ten-day annual event running October 17th-27th and is located in Raleigh. The fair brings people from all over North Carolina to Raleigh, and provides many opportunities for our members to get involved in service to agriculture. This year, over 1 million people visited the fair. Our main fundraising opportunity during the fair is through the North Carolina Pork Council. Throughout the week, at least 8 brothers a day voluteered their time working five hour shifts. We dedicated over 100 hours as a fraternity to the Pork Chop Shop.  During that time, brothers took food orders, prepared plates, operated cash registers, washed dishes, and helped keep the dining area clean. North Carolina is second in leading swine production in the United States and theNorth Carolina Pork Council is a long-time industry friend of Alpha Zeta. The Pork Chop Shop is a great way for our chapter to promote and serve the swine industry in North Carolina. The event was also a great way to meet people who are involved in all aspects of agriculture, both customers as well as other friends of the Pork Council people with whom we worked. This year, there were over 10,000 customers come through the Pork Chop Shop. After all the profits were totaled by the Pork Council, Alpha Zeta was given a monetary donation for our services. 

Most brothers enjoyed the social aspect of the fair after volunteering with Pork Chop Shop. They rode rides, watched fireworks and tasted various fried foods. Unfortunately this was our last year serving food with the Pork Council. Alpha Zeta will be providing service to the Pork Council during the fair or another event during the year.

The fair is organized and operated by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. We enjoyed meeting and talking with NC Commissioner of Agriculture, Steve Troxler, about what work goes into planning the fair as he came through the line at Pork Chop Shop. We also served barbeque to a local television news anchor. This year we had a "bumper crop of fun” at the State Fair, and cannot wait for next year
