Big/Little Night

Originally posted by Halli M. James

On September 20, Cook AZ held our Big/Little night. This event gave our new member class a chance to learn a lot about the history of our local chapter and national AZ. New members were then paired with their big brothers who help them throughout the process of joining AZ. New members also have the chance to meet all of the active brothers and many of the alumni. Alumni and brothers share stories of their personal AZ experiences and really get the chance to welcome in the new member class.

Alumni Reunion Picnic

Originally posted by Rheanna I. Foley

On August 10th the alumni of the Cornell Chapter held their annual reunion picnic. This year it was held at Jim and Lois Carter’s cottage on the banks of Seneca Lake. Three active members of our chapter, Rheanna Foley, Rain Hennessey, and Nick Culver, went to the picnic to help set up and keep everything running smoothly. It was a great opportunity for us to improve relations with our alumni. It was also a great opportunity for the alumni to gather and maintain their connection with AZ.

Leslie is a recent graduate of NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine and has started Tarheel Mobile Veterinary Services in Sparta, NC.  She spoke with forty active brothers and five alumni on Wednesday, April 10th.  Leslie was very active in the North Carolina Chapter and served as chronicler. She discussed her career, vet school and how AZ has impacted her life. Brothers had an opportunity to ask questions. The alumni speaker series is a great opportunity to network with alumni in various fields. It also highlights the accomplishments of some of our talented alumni.

Reconnecting with our Alumni

Alumni Event has become a tradition at Alpha Zeta's Cook Chapter. We respect our alumni and are honored that they take time out of their lives to meet the new members and reconnect with brothers every semester over a delicious meal. This semester, Alumni Event was held at the East Grand Buffet on March 9, 2013 from 4pm-7pm. 30 or so alumni and about 50 brothers attended the event. We even saw a few older alumni come back that had lost touch with the chapter for several years. It was a wonderful evening filled with funny stories being told about the "good old days" and many of the new members left the event with a feeling of family and home...

Originally posted by Jacquelyn E. Neal

On Saturday, March 30, 2013, members, alumni, and friends of the members of the Florida Chapter arrived at SeaWorld in Orlando bright and early for a behind-the-scenes tour. We got to see quarantined manatees and turtles, many of which were being treated for cold stress, and a pilot whale named 300 that is being rehabbed after developing scoliosis. We also got to see some of the transport vehicles used in rescuing animals throughout Florida and the labs where SeaWorld monitors water quality and processes animal blood samples.

During Agriculture Awareness Week we hold a forum regarding the issues in agriculture to help educate the brotherhood, as well as the public.  We advertise this forum throughout the week through social media and word of mouth.  This year the forum was held on Wednesday at 5:30pm. The theme was Food Safety and Security.  The Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture, Joe Reardon, opened up the forum by giving his story of how he became involved in Agriculture and how he got to where he is today.  We then heard from other panelists, including a NCSU animal science professor, high school teacher, and a student...

Big Little Night!

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

On February 15, 2013, The Alpha Zeta Cook Chapter welcomed its new potential members.  On this night, the new members learn about the Alpha Zeta history and what the fraternity values.  This is the night they get to really meet the brothers of the fraternity.  It is also when the new members become "littles" when they get their "bigs", the older members of the fraternity.  Once they meet their bigs, the littles are introduced to the rest of their Alpha Zeta family, which includes graduated alumni and other members of the fraternity, even faculty members!  Most families end up doing events over the semester such as hold family dinners dinners or do community service events together...
