The night was filled with good food and tons of laughter.

NC First Official Service Event- Red Cross Blood Drive

Originally Posted By Sara N. Fleming

Brothers signed up for donation times and at those times brothers were checked in at the registration desk  and given a name tag and reading material highlighting the requirements of donating blood. After donating blood brothers relaxed in the resting area of the gym where food and drinks were provided. At the end of the experience each of the 9 brothers who participated received a shirt stating that they were saving lives by donating blood. Overall it was a wonderful bonding experience for brothers. The Red Cross states that one donor can save up to three lives.  This event was an excellent way for us to serve the community at large, and enabled us to promote service to the NC State community.

Last weekend, the Florida Chapter took part in the Edible Plant Project at Siembra Farms. The Edible Plant Project is a nonprofit mission run by volunteers that strive to promote edible landscape and local food production. The Edible Plant Project’s goal is to create alternatives to the unsustainable food system in this country. When we arrived at the farm, we were separated into 2 different groups. One group picked sweet potatoes, while the other group tended to the green house. In the green house, we picked out the weeds, cleaned seeds, and planted sugarcane. All in all, the Florida Chapter was able to devote our time in a fun and farm friendly way!

Kanapaha is a 62 acre botanical garden with the states largest public bamboo display and herb garden in the Southeast region. Kanapaha was nicest enough to take us on a tour of the gardens before they showed us where we would be performing our service activities. We helped maintain the bamboo displays and mulched the area to be aesthetically pleasing to the public.

Road Clean Up

On Saturday, we performed our first road clean up on our Alpha Zeta Road! We all had a lot of fun seeing who all could find the most unique piece of trash. It was an absolutely beautiful day for a road clean up. Everyone went into pairs: one person picking up trash and one person holding the garbage bag. We ended up collecting 4 bags of trash. We have one road clean up down and two more to go! Can't wait!
