Each December, the North Carolina Chapter partners with Operation Holiday Cheer to help support a family going through rough times enjoy the holiday season. Operation Holiday Cheer located a family for us to contact. We found out that the family includes a single mom with two boys ages 3 and 11, as well as a 7 year old girl. A hat was passed around at each meeting in November for brothers to make donations. Alumni were also notified and gave very generous donations. We raised about $450 from brothers and alumni.

Responsible Drinking Happy Hour, Founders Day and Hurricane Sandy

Responsible Drinking Happy Hour, Founders Day and Hurricane Sandy

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

Cook chapter worked with our campus Deans and our own Alpha Zeta Alumni Association to Co-Sponsor Responsible Drinking Happy Hour on Friday November 2nd. The event was unfortunately postponed by Hurricane Sandy, and was rescheduled for the 9th. Cook chapter used this event to celebrate Founders Day, while promoting responsible drinking. Anyone over 21 who arrived received a wristband, and that wristband allowed them to buy exactly one alcoholic drink per hour, encouraging casual socialization without overuse. Free food and non-alcoholic beverages were also provided. Our chapter also sold shirts and buttons to raise money for those devastated by Hurricane Sandy. The event was a huge success and we were able to raise over $250 for Sandy Relief.

Proceeds from the breakfast went to Green Mountain Farm-to-School, an Vermont organization that seeks to make elementary school lunches healthier and promote buying locally. Approximately $200 was raised during the event. Eight Alpha Zeta members, six of them being officers, helped out. There were about 40 attendees which were a mix of students and their families, as well as faculty from the university.

Lauryn Collier is president of NC State’s Union Activities Board, which runs events such as concerts, movies and festivals to give students a chance to relax. This year Lauryn has encouraged the chapter to become more involved in campus activities and notified us of a fundraising opportunity at the Homecoming Pack Howl Concert Pep Rally.  Before the concert, the fundraising committee purchased 2,000 bottles of water to sell and delivered them to Reynolds Coliseum the following evening.  Seven brothers sold water bottles from 6pm to midnight on November 1st.  Alpha Zeta earned a profit of $49 and enjoyed an opportunity to work beside other campus organizations.

Florida Chapter Basketball Concessions Fundraiser

This past Thursday, November 1, 2012, the brethren of the Florida Chapter united to raise funds for their chapter. Eight brothers worked together in a concession stand at the University of Florida verses Nebraska-Kearney men’s basketball game Thursday night at 7pm. During this fundraiser brothers set up the concession stand, sold and served the concessions, and cleaned up after the game. The brother’s were lucky enough to be assigned to a very fun and interesting advisor named Oprah. Being their first time working a concession stand for Centerplate, the company that runs the concessions for these events, Oprah was both very fun and a tremendous help, even though it was her second day on the job. All in all, the event was a tremendous success and the Gator’s won 101 to 71.  Go Gators!

UF Pledge Class Red Mango Fundraiser 4/12/12

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

The Florida Chapter's spring pledge class held a fundraiser at Red Mango from 8-11 PM where they receive a certain percentage of the profits from those hours. Members and pledges came out after classes and studying to meet up with each other and get some delicious frozen yogurt that could be topped with numerous things including fresh fruit. The fundraiser gave the pledge class an opportunity to offset some of the fees associated with pledging like dues and national fees. Of course, what better way to do this than while eating frozen yogurt!...

UF Applebee's Fundraiser 4/11/12

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

Members of the Florida Chapter went to enjoy the food from Applebee's but unlike our normal Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser where we cook we were just there to enjoy the food and company of each other. Anytime on the 11th members and friends could come in and present a flyer to their server and a portion of the sales made would be donated to our chapter. Members and pledges met up for lunch or dinner with each other and took the time to just relax and catch up since a large group of us were graduating in less than a month. It gave us time to reminisce about the fun times we had in AZ and at UF. The fundraiser gave the chapter an opportunity to offset some of the costs associated with our events over the course of the year.
