Members of the Florida Chapter's pledge class met up with members and tons of other students and alumni from UF in a spring football tradition, the Orange and Blue game. The game is a scrimmage of the football team's offensive and defensive lines at the end of their spring practice session. They decided to go and take part in another tradition as students. In the group there were some crazy orange and blue covered fans ready to cheer on their team as they watched what was to become the team for fall...

UF Pledge Class Red Mango Fundraiser 4/5/12

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

The Florida Chapter's spring pledge class held a fundraiser at Red Mango from 8-11 PM where they receive a certain percentage of the profits from those hours. Members and pledges came out before or after the baseball game to meet up with each other and get some delicious frozen yogurt that could be topped with numerous things including fresh fruit. The fundraiser gave the pledge class an opportunity to offset some of the fees associated with pledging. Of course, what better way to do this than while eating frozen yogurt! Members and pledges enjoyed the company of each other while showing the new pledges support.

Members of the Florida Chapter met up on the 5th to take part in an American tradition, baseball. Members wore their orange and blue from head to toe as they made their way into the stadium to cheer the Gators on against the LSU Tigers. Though we lost that night the Gators brought it back and won the game on the 6th making them 7-4 in the SEC. In the group members came and went since some had exams that night but all in all everyone had a blast and enjoyed watching our baseball team play. The game gave us the opportunity to see other events that go on during school besides homework and the fall football games.

On September 28th, the brothers and alumni of Cook Chapter got together for the traditional installment of the new pledges. Our Censor and Sargent had the pledges meet with them beforehand, making sure everyone was ready for the event and knew the basics about our chapter. The pledges were then driven to Helyar House where the ceremony began. Throughout the night, the pledges met with the different classes of Alpha Zeta, including the Alumni...

UF Pledge Class Road Cleanup 4/2/12

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

The Florida Chapter's pledge class cleaned up our adopted road with the help of some of our members. The members and pledges that participated in the clean-up did not mind taking time out of their schedule to pick up the trash and get it off the street. We normally find at least one surprise item as we clean down the road! The road clean-up was planned for an evening to avoid the heat of the day. We collected a bunch of trash cleaning up the community and making the people in the area very happy...

The Florida Chapter headed to the beautiful Kanapaha Botanical Gardens in Gainesville.  Members came out to clean up the gardens by doing a little weeding in the front walk area as well as chopping up old bamboo to be sold to people that come to visit. We also hustled to clean up the tables and chairs from a wedding the previous night and helped them set up for a speaking group to come in later that night...

The Florida Chapter was able to jetisend one member across the country as a representative for the annual NALC hosted by the Fresno State Chapter. Chapters from around the country were introduced to local agricultural ventures covering a variety of different fields. Members visited such places as almond processing plants, frozen food processors, and Sunmaid Raisins. The conference was a great way to meet people from other chapters and compare and contrast how each chapter operates. Members were able to meet with career representatives to make contacts leading potential careers. It was a great time and a great opportunity to connect with other members.

The Florida Chapter headed out to Tijuana Flats after our chapter meeting for their weekly Taco Tuesday. Members and pledges came out to catch up on what has been going on and get to know each other more so that the pledges can make a smooth transition into the chapter in less than a month! The dinner gave us an opportunity to relax and just hang out as friends without the stressors of school glooming over us. Members and pledges chowed down on tacos and tried out the many hot sauces from the hot sauce bar. We hope that this dinner after meetings becomes a regular event to give us a chance to become a closer AZ family!
