UF vs. LSU Baseball Social 4/5/12

Members of the Florida Chapter met up on the 5th to take part in an American tradition, baseball. Members wore their orange and blue from head to toe as they made their way into the stadium to cheer the Gators on against the LSU Tigers. Though we lost that night the Gators brought it back and won the game on the 6th making them 7-4 in the SEC. In the group members came and went since some had exams that night but all in all everyone had a blast and enjoyed watching our baseball team play. The game gave us the opportunity to see other events that go on during school besides homework and the fall football games.

Our Censor and Sargent had the pledges meet with them beforehand, making sure everyone was ready for the event and knew the basics about our chapter. The Florida Chapter was able to jetisend one member across the country as a representative for the annual NALC hosted by the Fresno State Chapter. Chapters from around the country were introduced to local agricultural ventures covering a variety of different fields. Members visited such places as almond processing plants, frozen food processors, and Sunmaid Raisins. The conference was a great way to meet people from other chapters and compare and contrast how each chapter operates. Members were able to meet with career representatives to make contacts leading potential careers. It was a great time and a great opportunity to connect with other members.

The Florida Chapter held a fundraiser at TCBY from 8-9 PM where we receive a certain percentage of the profits from the night. Members and pledges came out to meet up with each other and catch up on what has been going on and get to know each other more so that the pledges can make a smooth transition into the chapter once initiated. The fundraiser gave us an opportunity to offset some of the fees associated with our chapter. Of course, what better way to do this than while eating ice cream! Members and pledges chowed down on frozen yogurt and ice cream of all kinds while enjoying the company of members.

The North Carolina Chapter is lucky to have such a supportive network of alumni both locally and internationally. Alumni frequently come back for chapter meetings and sponsor events such as Agriculture Awareness Week on campus. Members of the Leadership and Government Relations Committee have been looking for ways to involve more alumni in chapter activities. The committee is working with advisors to coordinate an alumni speaker series. Our first speaker, Rory Roten met with the 35 brothers on August 29th at 7:30pm.

A key commemorating the 75th anniversary of the North Carolina Chapter was placed in NCSU’s Free Expression Tunnel in 1979.
