Every semester the Cornell chapter puts on Ag Day to celebrate and promote the world of agriculture. Farm equipment and animals are brought to the Ag quad where students can see the animals and machinery up close and ask questions. Students love petting the calves, goats and lambs. Agricultural clubs and organizations are invited to set up a display or create an activity for students to learn more about agriculture. Actives Carly Neumann and Ross Taylor enthusiastically advertised for the event by wearing pig and cow costumes all day...

NC Flag Football

NC Flag Football

Every fall semester, the North Carolina Chapter forms a co-ed intramural flag football team to play against other organizations on campus. This year, we played two games on Tuesday September 4th and Tuesday September 11th at 7:30. In order to register with Student Recreation, at least four females and four males had to sign up to participate about a week before the first game. Alpha Zeta won the first game against Alpha Omega in a 10-0 shutout. The second game was very close, but the team did not pull it out.  Each game lasted about an hour. Playing football is a great way for brothers to have fun, relieve stress, and provides a break from studying. Brothers can also work on their teamwork and communication skills. The NC chapter also participates in other sports such as soccer and volleyball.

With the attraction of beautiful weather, free food, and raffles, the event brought more than 1,000 students and hosted over two dozen clubs and organizations.

On Friday September 7th, the brothers of Alpha Zeta gathered on the College Avenue campus during the fall semester’s Involvement Fair. There was a table set with banners and signs promoting the service, leadership, and goals of the fraternity. Brothers talked one-on-one and in small personal groups with their peers; among them hopefully a few prospective new members. The event attracted at least 5,000 people, featuring 300 student organizations, 55 fraternities and sororities, and numerous departments. The weather was beautiful and we certainly made some great new friends.

The NC Chapter sponsored a 5k run around NC State’s campus. Three brothers volunteered to help with the event, run or walk on Saturday, April 21. We contributed $250 to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Ambassadors, who host the event. After the race, participants enjoyed games, music, snacks and NCSU ice cream. The Fun Run was a great opportunity to get involved in campus events and support other organizations within the college. We hope to participate in the event next year.

On Tuesday April 17th, 22 brothers participated in Sigma Alpha’s 10th Annual Fundraiser Swing-a-Thon. The Swing-a-Thon raises money for the Agriculture in the Classroom programs. Each person pays $10 to swing on a porch swing for fifteen minutes. Many organizations on campus participate in this fundraiser and if an organization raises over $100 they get recognition on the T-shirt they give all of the participants.

There were people selling pizza, chicken wings, French fries, fried oreos, hot chocolate and several other great things. Several of the brothers decided to stay longer than their shift, some even all night. This was a great time for service, fundraising and fellowship for the Brotherhood.

The Florida Chapter had its second to last intramural sand volleyball game on Sunday. The members who showed up to play that night and were met by a team with the same record as we did. Both teams warmed up and our team continued to show great improvements upon each successive time we play together and are definitely looking forward to the last game of the season. As for the game itself it was a rainy and cold night so the teams decided to call it a draw and go into their last game as 1-1-1. The team is looking forward to their next opponent Sketchville USA and hope it will be another good game ending with a win!
