NC Officer Team-Building Session

Originally posted by Ashley J. Kirby

On Sunday January 13th, the advisors of the North Carolina Chapter hosted a team-building workshop for the officer team. All five officers participated from 3pm to 5pm in Garner, NC.  Activities included watching the miscommunication comedy "Who’s on First?” and individually drawing our dream houses to demonstrate how we are all unique. The advisors gave us opportunities to work together to complete other fun tasks and then led us in a discussion to prepare us for this semester.  We discussed how we have worked well together, what steps we could take to improve teamwork, as well as details for close events.  Our advisors provided chips and delicious sausage dip for us to enjoy.

Operation Holiday Cheer located a family for us to contact. We found out that the family includes a single mom with two boys ages 3 and 11, as well as a 7 year old girl. A hat was passed around at each meeting in November for brothers to make donations. Alumni were also notified and gave very generous donations. We raised about $450 from brothers and alumni.

Brothers registered online with Campus Recreation, who divided teams into five heats of eight canoes. We arrived at the campus pool fifteen minutes prior to our 6:30 start time. The object of pool battleship is to be the last boat floating, so brothers had to bring tools. Three brothers were in a canoe and either threw water into other canoes with bowls or used a plastic shield to block water.
