Anti-Hazing Week

Anti-Hazing Week

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

During Anti-Hazing week at Rutgers University brothers and new members attended various workshops to learn about what hazing is and how to prevent the spread of it at Rutgers University. New members were also encouraged to attend a workshop sponsored by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs where they were taught the value of brotherhood and the negative effects and consequences of hazing. It was an information week for us all and we gained several ideas about fun bonding events that we could carry out in our own new member semester, one of which included a bake-off, an idea the brotherhood really enjoyed.

New Member Retreat

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

Saturday, September 29, 2012,  the New Member Upsilon Class got together the day of the installment as official pledges for their first bonding day. The purpose of this retreat was first and foremost to outline the upcoming events/semester for the new members. They learned about all of the upcoming events, the amount of service hours they are required to complete during their new member semester (5), the history of the fraternity, the requirements for initiation, big/little relationship information, the hazing policy of the university, and everything the fraternity is involved in throughout the year that we would love for them to participate in if they have the time and choose to do so...

Halloween Cards

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

As part of the rush process, Cook chapter organized a card making event. On Thursday, September 20, potential new members would come to the campus center, where brothers would be providing all sorts of materials. The Halloween Cards made were sent to the children in the St. Peter’s Hospital Pediatric Unit. Cook Chapter tries to make cards for the children for all occasions, including Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas for the children. We hope that our contributions make their days a little brighter.

The Miller & Joseph Seminar:Strengthening Diverstiy Through Pluralism

The Miller & Joseph Seminar:Strengthening Diverstiy Through Pluralism

Originally posted by Melinda L. Lee

The weekend of October 12, 2012 twenty members participated in a Diversity Seminar, with 14 presenters and Seminar Hosts. Through participation in this three-day seminar, the Townsend AZP Chapter's 14th class developed a firm understanding of the ways that diversity and pluralism are related. On the first day of this seminar, AZP members focused on the many aspects of diversity, and discussed the social stigmas that are stereotypically attached to different ethnic, socioeconomic and religious groups. Students were able to participate in a hands-on activity that illustrated the fallacy that each person has an "even playing field" in life; students discussed the difference that monetary privileges can make on an individual's lifestyle and educational success.

Florida Chapter Initiates Fall 2012 Pledges

Originally posted by Audrey S. Knickerbocker

Last Tuesday, November 20th, the Florida Chapter of Alpha Zeta had the privilege of initiating 10 new members.  The evening started out with mingling and networking between sponsors, pledges, and others in attendance.  Initiation rituals were conducted and the pledges became official members of the Florida Chapter of Alpha Zeta.  It was an exciting night for everyone in attendance.  Pledges finally saw all their hard work during the semester pay off.  The evening continued with a delicious dinner, speeches, and awards for the pledges.  All officers in attendance voted on the best pledge paddle, and that person was recognized with a gift basket of goodies!  All the pledge paddles looked great, so it was a tough decision!  We were unexpectedly honored to have the dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Dean Balser, in attendance for the ceremonies.  All in all, it was a joyous night for everyone and we wish the best of luck to our new members of the Florida Chapter!

NC Induction Ceremony

Originally posted by Ashley J. Kirby

This semester, the North Carolina Chapter is proud to welcome 7 new members to the brotherhood. 35 brothers attended inductions on Wednesday, October 24th at 6:30pm. We were thankful to have High Chancellor Weston McCorkle there to participate in the ceremony as well.  The traditional ceremony helps the new brothers understand why Alpha Zeta was founded as well as goals of the organization.  We joined in congratulating the newest members of our chapter and challenging them to grow during there time in the chapter. After the ceremony, we watched a slide show of pictures from rush and candidate education week.

Every semester the Cornell chapter participates in adopt a highway. This is a tradition that occurs every initiation weekend. The 2-mile stretch the chapter is assigned to, is right outside of town. It is a great way for new members to officially participate in community service with the chapter.

The ceremony was a traditional set up allowing the initiates an inside into what we were founded on and what we strive towards as an organization. After the ceremony we joined in congratulating the newest members of our chapter with dinner where they sat with their sponsors, our advisors, and members...

UF FOG Jog 5K Service 4/15/12

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

Members of the Florida Chapter participated or volunteered at the first annual FOG Jog. The Florida Organic Growers put on the 5K Run/Walk to help raise funds. The event was a fun and healthy way for members to help raise funds for Florida Organic Growers (FOG), a local non-profit which supports and promotes organic, sustainable agriculture and nutritional food in our community. It was a blast for members to help support the local community and give back while keeping healthy.
