On November 10th, the Scholarship Committee of the Cook Chapter hosted a lunch with Dr. Bruce Clarke, an Alpha Zeta alumnus and professor of Plant Biology and Pathology at Rutgers. Dr. Clarke answered questions regarding the graduate school application process, and gave members tips on writing to prospective graduate school advisors. He also talked about what the Cook Campus community  and Alpha Zeta were like many years ago, and members discussed changes occurring on campus and Alpha Zeta's role in keeping a sense of community in the ever-changing Rutgers landscape. Members enjoyed getting the chance to talk to a professor and alumnus that they do not get to see very often.

Cook Chapter Has Pizza with a Faculty Advisor

Originally posted by Lisa K. Izzo

On October 11th, the Scholarship Committee of the Cook Chapter hosted the second dinner with Alpha Zeta faculty on Cook Campus. Members met up with Dr. George Clark, a chapter advisor and professor in the Human Ecology Department, at a local pizza place. Dr. Clark talked about how he got to where he is now. Members learned some fun facts about their advisor, such as how he had originally wanted to be a dentist and that his favorite food is pizza (hence the restaurant choice). Members enjoyed getting to know one of their advisors better over a casual dinner.

The Florida Chapter had the amazing opportunity to initiate 5 new members into our chapter. The night was a rainy and chilly night but that would not stop our excitement or gratitude to the members, staff, and initiates that came out. The ceremony was a traditional set up allowing the initiates an inside into what we were founded on and what we strive towards as an organization. After the ceremony we joined in congratulating the newest members of our chapter with dinner where they sat with their sponsors, our advisors, and honored guest Dr. Robert McCleery....

The third annual UF AZ Pancake Breakfast held at Applebee's 8-10 a.m. before a 1 p.m., home football game against Furman. We pre-sold tickets for $5, and then it's was $7 at the door. The breakfast includes 2 pancakes, 2 sausage links, scrambled eggs, butter, syrup, and coffee, orange juice, or water to drink! Members take shifts busing tables, serving, cooking, and cleaning. Our fundraiser chair Gernide Zamor planned this with the help of our treasurer Libby Weber putting a $200 deposit on the restaurant and supplies. We worked hard to get the word out about the breakfast giving members tickets to sell and sending an email out over the faculty/alumni listserv and creating a facebook event to get it out to our friends!...

The Florida Chapter's Fall pledge class held a fundraiser at TCBY from 9-10 p.m. where they receive a certain percentage of the profits from the night. Members and pledges came out to meet up with each other and catch up on what has been going on with each since our last event. The fundraiser gave the pledges an opportunity to offset some of the pledging fees associated with AZ. Of course, what better way to do this than while eating ice cream! Members and pledges chow down on frozen yogurt and ice cream of all kinds while enjoying the company of members.

UF Potluck 11/15/11

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

It's potluck time again!!! Potluck is a tradition in the Florida Chapter where the pledges put on a themed dinner for the members. Our pledges planned it and came up with a theme of Mexican. Pledges, with the help of the officers, cooked up an entire taco bar of food and desserts for the members to feast on. The potluck benefits both members and pledges by giving us an opportunity to socialize and get to know each other better. It also gives pledges the opportunity to get their paddles signed as initiation quickly approaches! Even though potluck occurs every semester it will never get old and as we say you will see members you haven't seen in a while! It constantly shows each pledge class's personality with the changing themes and the corresponding food, decorations, and outfits/costumes.
