UF Ropes Course 3-20-11

Our AZ Chancellor, Kelin Maciejewski, headed up a bonding activity that took place at UF's Lake Wauburg Ropes Course. Planning included reserving the course months in advance and having the 14 members attended sign paperwork ahead of time. It started with "get to know you warm-up activities." Then there was a low alpine course where everyone had to work as a team to get everyone across a two foot high log-course with various obstacles and team problem solving activities. Next everyone had to get over a 12 foot high wall with no ropes and just people trying to push/pull people over the wall. Last, people had the chance to climb a 45 foot high alpine tower with various obstacles including nets, hanging logs, wobbly platforms, ladders, and rocks. Everyone had a blast. It was a ton of fun and it made a lot of people feel better connected as a group.

Valentine's Rose Sale Fundraiser

Valentine's Rose Sale Fundraiser

Our annual rose sale is our biggest fundraiser! Our fundraiser chair, Gernide Zamor, did an excellent job planning everything with the help of 28 other members! An order form is e-mailed to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences faculty listserv as well as the Florida chapter's AZ listserv. We order over 700 roses in red, white, and pink colors to fulfill our pre-sales and to sell individually on campus on Valentine's Day. This is a THREE DAY event since it takes time to prep the roses (de-thorn, clip the ends, and separate by color), store in a walk-in cooler, bundle the roses according to pre-sale orders, deliver the orders on campus on Valentine's day, and table on campus selling any remaining roses. This benefits the college by giving an alternative to expensive florists while supporting its own honors fraternity! We greatly look forward to this event every spring!

Grilled Cheese for Diseases!

Originally posted by Stephanie M. Neal

We organized a fundraiser called Grilled Cheeses for Diseases. For this event we partnered with ATZ Farmhouse Fraternity and used their house to make grilled cheeses that were sold to students walking by. All the proceeds went to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This event was a great way to bring the members from each class together in a fun way that benefited a great cause. Our chapter participated because we wanted to do something that we never tried before and everyone really seemed to have enjoyed themselves. The chair of the social and community service committee organized the event with the help of her committee and ATZ members. We distributed flyers on campus, made a facebook group and made posters advertising the event.

Book Buybacks Fundraiser

Originally posted by Selina A. Ruzi

From December 16th to the 23rd, the Cook Chapter hosted book buy backs partnered with the Great Buy Back in order to raise money for a fellow brother in need. 50 brothers worked shifts at tables located at the Cook Campus Center and Douglas Campus Center from 10am to 6pm each day to buy back the textbooks from students and anyone who wished to sell. They got cash for books they no longer needed and the Cook Chapter received a commission for their work, raising over $600 at the Cook Campus Center alone. The event was planned by our Treasurer and Financial Committee.

Florida Fall '10 pledge TCBY Fundraiser 11-02-10

This event called for the Fall 2010 Pledge Class to set up a two-hour time frame during which a percentage of the proceeds at a local TCBY restaurant would be donated to the pledge class. The pledge class then told the Florida AZ members as well as friends and family to come out during that time and buy ice cream and other treats to help offset the costs of AZ national and chapter pledge dues. The pledges received one of their two required fundraising points for participating in this event.
