AgDay Collegiate Leadership Summit in Washington D.C.

Ag Day Collegiate
Leadership Summit

March 13-16, 2011

Alpha Zeta is looking for two student members to attend The Consortium's AgDay Collegiate Leadership Summit in Washington D.C. 

You will be joined by students from The Consortium's other member organizations (i.e. AFA, Ag Rho, Ag Sig, Farmhouse, Block and Bridle, Collegiate FFA & 4-H, and others)

Participant Selection:
  • Participants’ should be emerging leaders within Alpha Zeta
  • Agricultural major
  • Possess at least a 3.0 grade point average (4.0 point scale)
  • Must be able to arrive at the 4-H Center in Washington D.C. by 2 p.m., March 13 and depart for the airport no earlier than noon, March 16.
*You are encouraged to submit a request to tour the White House for the morning of March 16 (10 a.m. preferred). This request must be done through your local Congressman’s office and must be done 60 days in advanced.

Submission Process:
Alpha Zeta will be able to provide $250 to each of the two selected participants for travel.  Lodging, on-site transportation and meals will all be provided by The Consortium.

In order to be considered, please email Lauren Mangnall (mangnall@alphazeta.org) by Tuesday, January 18 with the following information:
  • Name
  • E-mail
  • Degree Program
  • GPA
  • Current and Previous Leadership roles help in Alpha Zeta and other related ag organizations
  • 1-2 paragraphs about why you want to attend the Leadership Summit and what you hope to gain by attending.
The two members who are chosen to represent Alpha Zeta will be contacted by Wednesday, January 19.  The Consortium will then contact those selected members to make final registration and travel arrangements.

4:30 p.m. Review training and Ag Day schedule
5:30 p.m. Dinner
6:30 p.m. Depart National 4-H Center
DC Night Tour

March 14, 2011
8:00 a.m. Breakfast
9:00 a.m. Review of goals and objectives for participation
9:30 a.m. Being an Advocate
Where and how advocacy happens
Rules of the road
10:30 a.m. Break
10:45 a.m. Agriculture Constituent Relations and Issues
11:45 a.m. Lunch
1:00 p.m. Student group issue exchange
Each organization presents the current issues affecting their industry segment; implications and key facts (Ex: Block & Bridle present animal issues)
2:40 p.m. Break
3:00 p.m. Media and Message Training
Matt Bennett, Get Proactive

State or group planning
Mock situations with legislative resources (legislative aides and trade association lobbyists)
