Event: “Alzamora somos todos”

A rough translation of the event’s title is "We are all Alzamora”, Alzamora being the name of the estate that the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus is in charge off. The estate is used for the college researches that are related to agriculture, may it be soils, animals, plants, etc. The event was held Saturday, November 5, and it basically consisted of giving maintenances services to the estate. The university is benefited from this event because the budget giving to the estate is not very high and by giving the services that were done on the event the estate is better preserved and is still being kept used for student and professor researches. The chapter is also benefited from this event because the estate is used for various activities, including special laboratories that are part of the student’s main curriculum...

Fund Raising Activity: Doughnut Sale

In order to make future activities, we must raise money. A perfect and effective way of doing this is by selling things people love and might sweeten their day, doughnuts. On October 27, 2012, we bought 150 boxes which contain a variety of four doughnuts and sold them for two dollars in the lobby of the agriculture building of the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez. The event was a success and the money is kept for future activities.

Members made over 100 cards "punny" cards that will hopefully brighten the days of the children in the hospital, most between 10 and 12 years old. The event was also used as a rush event, attracting some potential new members that wanted to learn more about the fraternity, especially our service aspect.

Cook Chapter Family Dinners

Originally posted by Lisa K. Izzo

One of the great traditions that the Cook Chapter has is bigs and littles, but it goes beyond that. Family lines are important to the members of the chapter, even after the pledging semester is over. Recently, many families have started the tradition of the "family dinner". Most families do a potluck style dinner, cooking anything from mac and cheese to chili...

Dinner at the Dining Hall

Dinner at the Dining Hall

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

The night of January 31st, a bunch of brothers of the Cook Chapter made a plan to go out to dinner at the one affordable place, the Dining Hall. Brothers of all different pledge classes talked about their days and complained about hard classes while enjoying dinner (and desert). It's good to know that no matter how long the day is, you always have brothers to rely on.

UF Air Potato Round Up Service 1/28/12

Originally posted by Claire D. Page

Members of the Florida chapter grabbed bags and gloves to remove one of Gainesville’s most threatening plant species- the air potato. The theme of the event this year was "Beware of the Dark Side Darth Tater” and the forest was with our members on this particular morning. This annual event is attended by hundreds of Gainesville residents who spend the day working in local parks and on the University of Florida campus to remove the invasive plant, which really does resemble a potato. This year, 5700 lbs of air potatoes were collected from all over the city, as well as 95 bags of trash. AZ members felt great about helping the Gainesville community, and celebrated after at the Morningside Nature Center, enjoying food, music, and brotherhood.

Ice Skating Indoors!

Ice Skating Indoors!

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

On January 26th, a few of the Cook Chapter brothers got together with younger alumni to go ice skating... in the Campus Center. Everyone strapped on figure skates and stepped onto heavily waxed linoleum, trying not to fall down. Not everyone was allowed on the rink at once, and that was a good idea, since the fake ice took some time getting used to and crashing was not uncommon. All in all, it was a great fun and an informal way for the current brothers and recent graduates to spend time together.
