On Saturday, October 20th, members of the Cook Chapter of Alpha Zeta teamed up with Clean Ocean Action to pick up trash from our local beaches. Our chapter went to Point Plesant, NJ for the day, picking up cigarette butts, small pieces of plastic, and even needles from the sandy beach. The cleanup was a huge success, and Cook Chapter even got mentioned in the local Asbury Park Press. The Clean Ocean Action group organized hundreds of volunteers to clean beaches all up and down the New Jersey Shoreline.

Responsible Drinking Happy Hour, Founders Day and Hurricane Sandy

Responsible Drinking Happy Hour, Founders Day and Hurricane Sandy

Cook chapter worked with our campus Deans and our own Alpha Zeta Alumni Association to Co-Sponsor Responsible Drinking Happy Hour on Friday November 2nd. The event was unfortunately postponed by Hurricane Sandy, and was rescheduled for the 9th. Cook chapter used this event to celebrate Founders Day, while promoting responsible drinking. Anyone over 21 who arrived received a wristband, and that wristband allowed them to buy exactly one alcoholic drink per hour, encouraging casual socialization without overuse. Free food and non-alcoholic beverages were also provided. Our chapter also sold shirts and buttons to raise money for those devastated by Hurricane Sandy. The event was a huge success and we were able to raise over $250 for Sandy Relief.

On Sunday, October 28th, Cook Chapter participated in the annual charity run (and fun walk for those who just wanted to participate) for Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH). In this event, you can either compete in the 5k run or simply donate and take the leisurely 1 mile walk around Busch Campus. The run was a USATF sanctioned Grand Prix 5K and prizes were given out to the fastest runners, and the groups who had the most people participate as well as those who donated the most food. Our chapter had 12 brothers, alumni and new members participate. The food donated to RAH was used to fill pantries all over New Jersey and benefited countless hungry families. $6000 was collected and donated.
