Between our keynote and workshops, we'll have several dynamic speakers! You'll learn a little about ag leadership, chapter best practices, and tips on making the transition from student to professional life.
Saturday Keynote Speaker:
Nick Lubecki, manager of Braddock Farms, Grow Pittsburgh
In 2007, Mayor John Fetterman approached Grow Pittsburgh to develop an urban farm in the borough. Braddock Farms was founded to grow affordable food to sell in Braddock and is a place for people in the area to learn about growing vegetables. During the 2010 season, Braddock Farms expanded to include a neighboring lot and nearly doubled the farm’s size to slightly more than an acre. The site includes two hoophouses, a small greenhouse, and a shipping-container for a storage unit and office. Braddock Farms sits on the corner of Braddock and 10th Street, a highly visible portion of the main business corridor, and is set against the backdrop of the borough’s last remaining steel mill.
Nick Lubecki, manager of Braddock Farms, is responsible for growing the tens of thousands of pounds of fresh produce every season. He sells produce at the weekly seasonal farm stand, organizes events like the Farm Olympics and Zucchini Cook-Off and oversees and teaches Urban Farm Apprentices and other farm volunteer groups on the Braddock production site.
