LEAD New York founder James Preston ’50 dies

James Clarence Preston ’50, Ed.D. ’68, a former Cornell Cooperative Extension agent who served as a professor of rural sociology at Cornell from 1968-88 and developed the Empire State Food and Agriculture Leadership Institute (LEAD New York), died Sept. 2 at his home in Hector, New York. He was 92.

Merwyn Davidson, 1933- 2019

Merwyn Davidson, age 85, of Aurora, passed away on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Lincoln.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Revs. Greg Reed, Michelle Reed and Lonnie Ott will officiate. Inurnment will be prior to the church service at 10 a.m. at the Aurora Cemetery.  No Visitation.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Love Justice International for the support of Kevin and Sally Bolis missionary work.

Dana G. Dalrymple, November 5, 1932 - March 7, 2018

Dana G. Dalrymple, a 36-year veteran of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), worked to improve farming practices worldwide. Most of his career was spent working for CGIAR, formerly the Consultative Group for International Agriculture Research, which he supported soon after its inception in 1972.  As an agricultural economist, he shaped the policies, programs and budgets of the agency’s Washington headquarters and 16 international centers in South America, Africa and Asia, and he traveled to most of them.

Dalrymple, 85, died of complications from pneumonia on March 7 at his home in Washington, D.C. after suffering from dementia. Colleagues, friends and family will celebrate his life at a later date to be announced.

Dr. Richard F. “Dick” Taylor, 81, of Fayette, MO passed Sunday, February 4, 2018, at his home. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 7 from 4 pm to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Fayette, MO.  Funeral service will be Thursday, February 8 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church with Reverends James Briggs and Nate Kohl officiating.  Interment will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Fayette, MO 4-H Foundation, or MU College of Veterinary Medicine in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 174 Hwy. 5 & 240 N., Fayette, MO 65248.

Dr. Bill Stringer

William “Bill” Cecil Stringer, 84, of Rocheport, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics. He was born September 18, 1932 in Cairo, Georgia, the son of the late Mack and Magdalene (Gandy) Stringer. On December 17, 1966, he was united in marriage in Houston, Missouri to Lola James Stringer, who survives at the home. 

Bill was a graduate of Cairo High School, Cairo Georgia. After graduation, he attended the University of Georgia where he earned both a B.S. in Animal Science and a master’s degree in Animal Nutrition. He also served two years in the army and worked briefly for the University of Georgia.
