The Florida Chapter headed to the beautiful Kanapaha Botanical Gardens in Gainesville.  Members came out to clean up the gardens by doing a little weeding in the front walk area as well as chopping up old bamboo to be sold to people that come to visit. We also hustled to clean up the tables and chairs from a wedding the previous night and helped them set up for a speaking group to come in later that night...

The Florida Chapter was able to jetisend one member across the country as a representative for the annual NALC hosted by the Fresno State Chapter. Chapters from around the country were introduced to local agricultural ventures covering a variety of different fields. Members visited such places as almond processing plants, frozen food processors, and Sunmaid Raisins. The conference was a great way to meet people from other chapters and compare and contrast how each chapter operates. Members were able to meet with career representatives to make contacts leading potential careers. It was a great time and a great opportunity to connect with other members.

The Florida Chapter headed out to Tijuana Flats after our chapter meeting for their weekly Taco Tuesday. Members and pledges came out to catch up on what has been going on and get to know each other more so that the pledges can make a smooth transition into the chapter in less than a month! The dinner gave us an opportunity to relax and just hang out as friends without the stressors of school glooming over us. Members and pledges chowed down on tacos and tried out the many hot sauces from the hot sauce bar. We hope that this dinner after meetings becomes a regular event to give us a chance to become a closer AZ family!

The Florida Chapter held a fundraiser at TCBY from 8-9 PM where we receive a certain percentage of the profits from the night. Members and pledges came out to meet up with each other and catch up on what has been going on and get to know each other more so that the pledges can make a smooth transition into the chapter once initiated. The fundraiser gave us an opportunity to offset some of the fees associated with our chapter. Of course, what better way to do this than while eating ice cream! Members and pledges chowed down on frozen yogurt and ice cream of all kinds while enjoying the company of members.

NC Flag Football

NC Flag Football

Originally posted by Ashley J. Kirby

Every fall semester, the North Carolina Chapter forms a co-ed intramural flag football team to play against other organizations on campus. This year, we played two games on Tuesday September 4th and Tuesday September 11th at 7:30. In order to register with Student Recreation, at least four females and four males had to sign up to participate about a week before the first game. Alpha Zeta won the first game against Alpha Omega in a 10-0 shutout. The second game was very close, but the team did not pull it out.  Each game lasted about an hour. Playing football is a great way for brothers to have fun, relieve stress, and provides a break from studying. Brothers can also work on their teamwork and communication skills. The NC chapter also participates in other sports such as soccer and volleyball.

In late September, the brother of the Alpha Zeta Cook chapter spent the day volunteering at an event known as Duck Land at the Annual Raritan River Festival. Duck Land is a place set up for little kids. The brothers helped the children make sand art, paint pumpkins, create arts and crafts, pour spin art, play games, etc. Brothers also participated in the famous Duck Race where they purchased ducks and threw them into a canal via a giant egg on a crane. The ducks were then observed until someone’s duck floated past the finish line...

On September 12th, Cook chapter gathered in front of the campus center to enjoy another summer night. Here AZ brothers kindled potential new members by lighting a fire to roast up s'mores. Brothers intermingled with other students interested in joining the fraternity and enlightened them on all AZ has to offer. Many students were interested and brothers were happy to share their experiences in Alpha Zeta. The smell of s'mores filled the air and harvested a large crowd. Brothers bonded, stories were shared, all laughed and enjoyed their treats.

Our Censor talked to all the brothers about upcoming Rush Events and brotherhood meetings as well as mandatory requirements. Brothers were asked for input on what they wanted from the semester and what their goals were. It looks to be a great semester, and it was great to see everyone again after a long summer.

Everyone in the North Carolina Chapter may not be thrilled about the start of classes, however they could not wait to see their fellow AZ brothers. The social committee organized a group dinner at El Cerro Mexican Restaurant to occur about an hour before the first meeting of the semester. On Wednesday August 22nd, over twenty brothers came for a delicious dinner. We were able to discuss summer jobs, internships, classes and vacations...
