NC SPCA Food Pantry Service Project

Originally posted by Madeline N. Dabolt

As one of our service projects this semester, 11 brothers went to the Wake County SPCA Food Pantry to volunteer our time to help with something they needed done. For two hours the brothers got to mark off the bar codes on dog food to prevent the people, who were getting a bag for free the next day, from taking them back to the stores and getting money from them. After the brothers finished the assignment that was given to them, they got to interact with the animals at the shelter until they had to leave...

The Penn State dairy science club created a video informing potential new students what Penn State Agriculture is all about.  One of the facilitators in the video is the Morrill Chapter’s very own, Rebecca Shaw. You can see her in the opening scene standing on the left of our lion shrine. There are also many Alpha Zeta Alumni in the video and eleven of us yelling D-sci at the end...

Each pledge received a gift related to their particular lineage and photos of each pledge with their bigs were taken. Following the event was a night of good, fun fellowship!

Cornell Greek Weekend

As some of you may have heard, the president of Cornell University is really cracking down on the Greek system this year and as a result, the Greek system has had to be creative in the way different events are run, particularly when regarding recruitment. This semester, the Interfraternity Council (IFC) planned a Greek Preview Weekend where all fraternities had an open house event on Friday evening (10/14) and a smoker on Saturday (10/15) where freshman had the opportunity to visit houses and meet active brothers. Friday evening, our chapter planning a carnival which unfortunately had to be moved inside due to weather. Saturday we hosted a smoker that was sports themed. Unfortunately the events were not as well attended as we had hoped due to bad weather, but the actives who participated had a great time!

Cornell Chapter Hosts Semesterly Ag Day

Originally posted by Emmaline A. Long

Every semester the Cornell Chapter hosts "Ag Day" on the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Quad. Our event this semester was held on 10/14. While Cornell may be the land grant university in our state, sadly many students do not even know that Cornell still has agricultural departments. We hold this event to both educate the Cornell Community, as well as to raise money for Tompkins County 4-H. Our event this semester was run as it has been in the past, with a fistulated cow for cow bingo, food, tractors, sheep, and campus agricultural organizations and clubs...

As a kickoff to homecoming week at the University of Illinois, the Student Alumni Ambassadors organize a massive, campus wide service project called iHelp. This event, which had close to 2000 participants, is a way for the members of the UIUC campus to give back to the community and form a closer bond. This is the first year that the Alpha Zeta Morrow Chapter participated and we had a great turn out. 9 brothers volunteered for this event and our project was to help construct a high tunnel and winterize the plots at the Student Sustainable Farm...
